At Ferala, we believe cashmere embodies the perfect blend of sustainability and sophistication, designed for those who want to invest in clothing that is both comfortable and responsible. It's much more than a material: it's a promise of comfort and elegance, for everyday wear as well as for events, embodying the attention to detail that makes all the difference. It enhances without being over the top, particularly on structured pieces like a coat, blazer, or suit jacket that we offer in our boutique. Its price may be surprising, but it reflects the rarity and craftsmanship behind each fiber.
An exceptional fiber born from the highlands.
Cashmere comes from the fleece of the Capra Hircus goat, a species living on the high plateaus of Inner Mongolia, Tibet, and the Himalayas, at altitudes over 4,000 meters. To survive extreme winters, these goats develop a double layer of hair: a stiff, wind-resistant outer layer, and an inner layer of ultra-fine down that retains body heat.
It is this second layer, harvested once a year in spring through meticulous combing, that gives rise to cashmere. This ancestral, manual process requires great patience and true expertise. Each goat produces only 150 to 200 grams of wool per year, the equivalent of a scarf or a light sweater. Thus, it takes the fleece of several goats to make a single tailored jacket.
The fineness of cashmere fibers, often less than 19 microns, gives it exceptional softness, while providing far superior thermal insulation than traditional wool. Warm without being heavy, supple without losing its shape, this material possesses thermal properties that adapt to the wearer's body.

Thanks to strong climate conditions as well as the delicate and manual process of retrieving the wool fibers, the hair of the cashmere goat are the softest, most resistant and warmest there is. It is the most ideal material for winter coats as well as blazers and suits, not mentioning the knitwear. It can also be easily blended with other materials like wool or silk to obtain a fabric for lighter garments for summer.
From Central Asia to European workshops.
Historically produced in the Kashmir region of present-day northern India, cashmere today comes mainly from Mongolia and China. However, it is Italian, Scottish, English, and Japanese mills that have mastered the most advanced processing techniques and set the quality standards for the global market.
At Ferala, each fabric is rigorously selected to ensure a sumptuous feel and impeccable drape from renowned weavers such as Loro Piana, Ermenegildo Zegna, and Holland & Sherry. We also select premium blends, pure cashmere or cashmere blended with wool or silk, for each coat or jacket we create. For example, a cashmere-blend blazer offers great freedom of movement while ensuring an impeccable drape.

This is why cashmere is considered one of the most precious natural fibers in the world...
Cashmere is often regarded as one of the most luxurious materials in the world — and rightly so. Its unmatched softness, warmth, and lightweight feel make it a favourite in high-end tailoring. But the true value of cashmere lies not only in how it feels, but in how it’s sourced, spun, and woven.
At Ferala, we are proud to work with Ermenegildo Zegna, a mill that embodies the highest standards of responsibility and craftsmanship in the luxury textile industry. Zegna part-owns Pettinatura di Verrone and Filati Biagioli Modesto — two heritage companies that collectively represent over 160 years of excellence in the combing and spinning of the world’s finest cashmere yarns.
These companies form the backbone of Zegna’s Luxury Textile Platform, and are instrumental in producing Oasi Cashmere — a remarkable achievement in ethical and transparent sourcing. Oasi Cashmere is 100% traceable, meaning that every step of the process — from the goat, to the breeder, to the spinner — is known and documented. This unbroken chain of care and craftsmanship ensures not only exceptional fabric quality, but also animal welfare and environmental responsibility.

At Ferala, we believe that true luxury must be responsible. That’s why we choose to work with mills like Ermenegildo Zegna, where traceability, sustainability, and quality are not marketing terms, but daily practices. When you wear a Ferala garment made with Ermenegildo Zegna’s Cashmere, you wear a story of integrity, tradition, and quiet excellence — woven into every fibre.
