HOW TO WEAR A SUIT WITH LINEN ADDITION, EXAMPLE OF PROPOSTE ABITI COLLECTION BY LORO PIANA

Ferala Team

Even though summer has not yet fully arrived in Luxembourg, we would like to discuss lighter fabrics, perfect for this time of year. More specifically, we will focus on the seasonal proposal of the Italian brand Loro Piana, i.e. the “Proposte Abiti” collection. As the name suggests, the collection is a set of proposals for suiting fabrics and is published twice a year, for the spring-summer and autumn-winter seasons.

Today's article is based on one of the projects of our long-time client, Quentin, who agreed to participate in our photo session. Quentin has been a fan of Loro Piana's seasonal collections for many years, which he appreciates for the exceptional quality of fabrics, beautiful colors and unique designs. Loro Piana offers light and fresh materials for hot weather and remains one of the most frequently chosen for wedding suits.

Before we review Quentin's choice, let’s discuss the characteristics of the “Proposte Abiti” bunch. To create the collection, Loro Piana uses the highest quality raw materials, which allows you to develop an airy and durable wardrobe for every occasion. The use of the highest quality fibers makes the suit extremely comfortable to wear and the end result is very elegant. The SS2024 collection includes proposals in pure wool as well as mixtures of wool, linen and silk. The addition of plant-derived fibers gives the fabric a texture on which the yarn structure is clearly visible, especially if we chose lighter colors like beige or light blue. This gives the fabric a rustic look, but a small addition of linen fibers means that the fabric does not wrinkle as much as in the case of pure linen. Moreover, the fabric becomes more airy and more air-permeable creating a perfect base for a summer suit.

The Proposte Abiti collection includes simple colors of nature, from beige, through rotten green to sky blue. These are perfect ideas for bohemian-style wedding suits. An interesting proposition are mixtures of linen, wool and silk woven with a thick weave and creating surfaces with a heavy structure. For those looking for motifs, there are light fabrics with the Prince of Wales check and tennis stripes. The last pattern was Quentin’s choice to create a light suit for everyday use. Clothing had to meet the most important criterion of comfort, especially on hot days. Hence, the choice fell on a fabric composed mainly of wool with the addition of linen and silk. The predominance of wool makes the suit resistant to major creases. Linen gives the fabric a characteristic rustic structure, while silk makes the material extremely pleasant to the touch. Because it is a summer fabric, Quentin chose a rather light blue color with stripes that give the impression of being washed out. The whole gives an elegant but not formal look, suitable for everyday wear.

Let's take a look at the details of the suit, which was created at Quentin's special request down to the smallest detail. First of all, the cut - comfort meant that the pants could not be too narrow. In summer, we should give up the slim cut in favor of wide ones, it will give us comfort and breathability. Moreover, if we choose fabrics with linen, we should remember that linen is less elastic than wool, so it requires more looseness in clothes. The wider legs suit Quentin's style, who prefers a vintage cut, hence the high waist of the trousers and double pleats under the belt. In this case, Quentin gives up belt loops in favor of side adjusters and the legs are necessarily finished with cuffs.

The jacket is unlined to increase breathability and the construction is minimal to reduce weight. The vintage style can be found in the choice of a peak lapels collar with very wide lapels and a hand-finished boutonniere. We decided to finish the collar and front of the jacket with hand stitching with larger spacing to emphasize the casual character of the outfit. An interesting detail is the hidden third button under the lapel. This is not our standard option, but at Quentin's request, the atelier added it to his pattern.

The whole ensemble reflects the unique and individual style of our client, who obtained a suit that meets his expectations and ensures comfort at work. It was an interesting adventure for us as well and we are proud to share it with you. This is the essence of the made to measure, sometimes requiring many meetings, but the results usually exceed expectations.
