In the last three articles, we discussed various trends in men's wedding fashion. Themes ranged from suits in bold colours, through material blends, to formal tuxedos. Last but not least, we would like to talk about the classics - a suit in navy blue or grey colours. It is still very often the choice of men because they want to use it on other occasions, and often even at work. Especially with the tailor-made option, which requires a larger budget, we would like our perfect suit to serve us for many years, so that the investment will pay off well.
In the case of a classic suit, you should choose 100% wool and avoid blends. Wool is a wrinkle-resistant, thermoregulatory fabric that is more durable as opposed to fibres of plant origin. Fabrics made of wool have a uniform and often a bit shiny surface. This makes the suit look elegant and neat. For a wedding suit, we recommend materials weighing from 240g to 300g with a thinner fibre diameter to make the fabric light and flowing. There are various weaves, but the most common is the twill weave, which creates a kind of thin diagonal stripes on the surface of the fabric. This weave gives a slight natural shine, makes the fabric durable and more flexible in width. Men who like matte fabrics can choose wool with a classic plain weave, proposed by Holland & Sherry and Dormeuil among others.
When it comes to the cut of the suit, the groom can choose between a classic or a more extravagant cut. Of course, if you want a classic outfit suitable for various occasions, we recommend sticking to standard solutions. A single-breasted jacket with a classic notch lapel collar and flap pockets will pass the test. With a well-tailored suit, the whole attire will be very elegant and toned down. In this case, the only option to go beyond the classics will be to choose a patterned lining and accessories in bolder colours. With this style, it is a good idea to add a waistcoat. This will distinguish the whole attire from an everyday business suit and add elegance. The waistcoat can be made in a different fabric to play with the contrast.
If you are interested in a more extravagant cut, it is worth considering a double-breasted jacket. This model adds a vintage style, and a well-cut one optically enlarges the shoulders and slims the waist. For this type of jacket, we recommend a collar with peak lapels and trousers with cuffs to emphasise the vintage flair. This is an interesting solution for men who already have classic everyday suits in their wardrobe and want to achieve a more impressive effect on their wedding day.
What colours to choose to achieve a classic look? The first choice should be navy blue. It is a colour that suits all skin tones and is easy to accessorise. The next choice is grey, but the appropriate tone should be selected, especially in the case of fair-skinned people and greying grooms. The third proposed colour is black, always elegant and easy to use for other occasions. These three tones are the base on which the future groom should rely in order to achieve a classic look, easy to use in later stylizations.
The big advantage of this type of outfit is the relative ease of selecting accessories. A well-tailored suit will make us look neat and elegant. The investment will definitely pay off because such a suit remains a classic for years and is suitable for many occasions.
