FORMAL OUTFIT FOR WOMEN: HOW TO REPLACE A DRESS WITH A SUIT?

Ferala Team

For special occasions, women are expected to wear dresses. We will see in this blog article that there are however other equally elegant options. If it is a wedding, an evening at the Philharmonie, or a gala dinner, you can opt for a made-to-measure suit. It is important to choose the right fabric, its color, and the personalizations, but also to adapt the cut of the suit to highlight the silhouette.

In our boutique, we see more and more women who want to turn to made-to-measure and a tailored outfit to stand out. The first choice for formal attire will be a tuxedo. It is an ideal option for going to the opera, or a gala evening that requires a “black tie” dress code. The client can opt for a black or midnight blue color which will be just as elegant but less formal. The women's tuxedo uses the same codes as the men's tuxedo, that is to say that you must have a satin application on the pockets, the buttons, as well as the lapel. As for the cut of the set, bespoke leaves a lot of freedom to our customers who can decide to wear a very fitted suit, or conversely an oversized one.

As for the choice of fabric, the best will be a very fine 4-season wool, like the tuxedo worn by Manon. Loro Piana wool is very suitable for this type of outfit because it is naturally supple, silky, and thanks to the twill weave, the fabric gives a slight shine. The material can have an addition of silk or cashmere, which will make it silkier and at the same time softer. Holland & Sherry offers the “Dupioni Silk” collection for women, which includes beautiful 100% silk fabrics for those looking for the most exclusive materials.

In the photos that we present to you, Manon is wearing a midnight blue tuxedo, very suitable for evening wear. There are also cream or ivory versions, which can be worn during the day and are a good replacement for wedding dresses.

If you want more information on the tuxedo for the bride, here is the link to our previous article which covers this subject:

Aleksandra's outfit is less formal but just as elegant. This represents a twist on a classic black skirt and double-breasted jacket ensemble. Despite the seemingly ordinary cut of the skirt, Aleksandra managed to personalize this model to her tastes by adding pockets, side tightening tabs and a slit on the front. As for the jacket, she opted for a pronounced houndstooth, very trendy in the 80s and which is back in fashion today. The silver buttons, as well as the two-princess darts on the front, recall the femininity and the chic side of the outfit. To complete the look, Aleksandra puts on the white shirt with a tuxedo plastron for the more formal side.

If you are a fan of colors, a good option will be to conceptualize a mismatched outfit consisting of a bouclé tweed jacket and classic woolen pants. The ideal collection for the blazer will be “Ladieswear” by Holland & Sherry. Inspired by nature, this bundle features carefully woven tweeds in a wide range of colors from black to apple green or red. For those who like a more sparkling touch, Holland & Sherry offers materials interspersed with shiny and metallic threads, ideal for an evening outfit.
